"What am I actually going to learn?" is the question we get most from people considering the DTM Data Analysis Career Bootcamp — and it's a fair one. Three months and R4,200 is a real commitment, evening classes on top of a day job even more so. Here's what the 3-module curriculum actually looks like, month by month.

Month 1 — Data Fundamentals

September starts from zero assumptions about prior data experience. You'll work through Excel as a data tool rather than just a spreadsheet — formulas, structured tables, and the habits that make data usable later. From there, the module moves into an introduction to databases and SQL basics: what a table actually is, how rows and columns relate, and your first SELECT statements. By the end of Month 1 you understand data types well enough to know why a date field behaving like text breaks a report.

Month 2 — Data Querying & Analysis

October is where SQL stops being basic. You'll work through joins and subqueries — the two skills that separate "I can write a SELECT" from "I can actually answer a business question with data." Alongside that, the module covers data cleaning: handling duplicates, nulls, and inconsistent formatting, because real datasets are never as tidy as tutorial datasets. Month 2 closes with an introduction to Power BI, connecting the querying skills you've built to a visual tool.

Most learners tell us Month 2 is where it "clicks" — the point where SQL stops feeling like syntax and starts feeling like a way to answer questions.

Month 3 — Data Visualization & Storytelling

November is about turning analysis into something a non-technical stakeholder will actually act on. You'll build proper Power BI dashboards, get comfortable with DAX basics for calculated measures, and learn report design principles — what makes a dashboard readable versus what makes it noise. The module closes with a capstone project: you pick a dataset, build a full analysis, and present it, the same way you would in a real analyst role.

What it feels like week to week

Classes run Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings, 18:30–21:30 SAST, live over Microsoft Teams. Every session is recorded to the LMS, so missing one class doesn't mean falling behind — you catch up before the next session. Between live classes, self-paced exercises reinforce what was covered, which is what makes the hybrid format work for people juggling a full-time job.

By the time you present your capstone in November, you'll have gone from Excel fundamentals to a full SQL-to-Power BI analysis pipeline — and a portfolio project to show for it.
